September Club News Update

The 2022 Lawn Bowls season has now ended. It’s been so good to see the Club in full swing
once again this year after the troublesome pandemic years. It’s not been a completely trouble-
free year with the extraordinary hot and dry weather conditions affecting some fixtures and the
playing surfaces, and of course the recent sad passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has
impacted us all in our own way. However, I believe that overall, it’s been a good season for
Caldicot Bowls Club, that’s seen some strong performances by our Teams and individuals who
entered Association competitions. In particular it’s been pleasing to see a good number of new
members joining our Club and clearly enjoying their newfound sport ! We trust that everyone
has enjoyed their Bowls and the social activities this season, win or lose — thank you All for your
participation and contributions!
So how has the Club fared this season?
⦁ At County level : Monmouthshire County sides won both Welsh Counties Championship
competitions and Caldicot BC were represented in both
o Graeme Howard – Monmouthshire Championship side
o Brian Howard and Adrian Jones – Monmouthshire Senior side
Congratulations Guys !!
Ladies South Wales & Mon League – We finished in 3 rd place, behind Chepstow and
Pontyfelin – a good performance Ladies, well done
MBA Div 2 – having won our final game vs. Pontnewydd we are currently 3rd; one other
League result is outstanding but the worst we can finish is 4 th – a very satisfactory
achievement.
GBL Div 2 – very good results in the second half of the season have seen us finish a mid-
table 5th, only 5pts away from 3rd , so again, a very creditable performance
EMBA – Caldicot finished as Champions having won all 5 of our fixtures. Great
performance !!
We also enjoyed great success in the EMBA individual competitions, the Finals having
been played at Caldicot last Sunday 11-Sep. Caldicot Bowlers achieved 4 Trophy Wins
and 5 Runners-Up, Barry Sansom being crowned open singles champion for the second
year running. (see Member Section for full details). Well done Guys and a big thank you
to everyone who helped out on the day to make it a great success .
A special thank you to Steve Barnett for collecting donations from local businesses to
use as Raffle prizes and to Hilda John for selling the tickets on the day. We raised £135
for this year’s charity St. David’s Hospice
– a good job, well done
⦁ Newport Over-60’s results and final placings are awaited.
Our own Club Finals Day was held on Sunday (4 th Sep). Another full and fabulous day of
competitive Bowls was enjoyed by many of you. A big thank you to all who entered the
competitions and to those who supported all the Finalists and helped make it such a good day.

In summary, a very satisfactory year all round and our thanks must go to the Captains, Barry
Sansom; Russ Jackson; Brian
Avery for their efforts in organising and motivating their respective
teams through the season……and of course congratulations to all of you for the bowls played
and the competitive spirit shown – well done All and thank you !!
