June 2024 – Club News Update
Brrrrrr!! Not a lot of decent bowling weather this Summer. However we’ve seen plenty
of action on the Green since the middle of May when many of you returned from what
was a very successful Mixed Tour to Eastbourne. It’s been great to see many of you turn
out for Monday Club Night’s and along with the MBA competitions and our own Club
competitions, there’s been a number of occasions when we’ve had a full Green – so
good to see it getting good use ! Let’s not forget that the Green does not look after itself
and whilst we have a contractor maintain our Green and hedges, they are nowadays
only contracted to cut the Green twice a week, so we owe our thanks to Brian Avery,
Roy Hughes, Steve Clemence and Mark Larrard for the additional cut and/or sweep that
they give our Green to help keep in a good playable condition 7-days a week.
Our competitive League sides have been getting mixed results. The Mens MBA side have
won 2 and lost 2 but are into the 3 rd Rnd (last 16) of the MBA Cup and whilst our GBL
side have, not unexpectedly, been finding their Div 1 competitors a challenge, they had a
very good 12pt win against Monmouth to give them their 1 st win from 4 matches. The
Mens O60’s side have also had just the 1 win in 5 matches – keep your heads-up guys
and enjoy the games – who knows, more wins may soon come along !!
As for the Ladies, what a good start! – 5 wins out of 6 and top of the South Wales &
Mon Ladies League – keep it going!
More good news is that we have some New members join us this year, several of whom
have previously played elsewhere So please make them feel welcome and help them
integrate into our Club activities. A warm welcome then to
Tony Jones; Alun Davies; Roger Gillespie; Ken Ault; Nigel Gallagher
I’m sure with your friendly support they will all soon feel at home here at Caldicot BC.
On the lighter, social side, a mixed team made the trip to Swindon West End BC, where
we were made very welcome, enjoying good company and good refreshment – ooh ! –
and of course a victory!
We held our first Social night at the end of May, where by all accounts, after a few ends
of Bowling, many of you enjoyed what has become our classic, fun Bingo, and with the
help of the usual Bar refreshments, delighted in a good chat with your Club pals. Keep an
eye on the Notice Boards for updates on future Social Nights and Friendly Matches.
Proposed Dates for our upcoming Social events can be seen on the Members Section
