To All our Bowls Club Members
2022 is nearing the end and from a Bowls Club perspective it has been a good year with
many of you being able to get back into playing and enjoying Bowls again after the
troublesome pandemic years of 2020 & 2021. From your Committee, a big thank you for
your support through the year and we look forward to seeing you back in spring 2023.
I am pleased to report that a second cheque of £235.00 was recently presented to
St.Davids Hospice, (see photo in the Gallery), it being our designated Charity this year.
This brings our total charity donation this year to £418.03 – thank you for all your
donations through the year.
Another thank you to those who supported the recent Presentation Evening and
Christmas Party. Unfortunately, like myself there were many who were unable to be
there on the night, plus the very cold weather and clash with World Cup football didn’t
help attendance. Special thanks to Brian Avery who stepped up to the plate at short
notice to provide the entertainment and to those who helped decorate the room and
ensured provision of the Christmas fayre. I trust that those present enjoyed the food,
drink and general merriment!!
As we look forward to 2023 the key date to put in your Diaries is :-

How did we do in 2022?
⦁ At County level : Monmouthshire County sides won both Welsh Counties Championship
competitions and Caldicot BC were represented in both
⦁ Graeme Howard – Monmouthshire Championship side
⦁ Brian Howard and Adrian Jones – Monmouthshire Senior side
⦁ Ladies South Wales & Mon League – We finished in 3rd place, behind Chepstow and
Pontyfelin – a good performance Ladies, well done
⦁ MBA Div 2 – finished in 3rd place, behind Cwmbran Park (promoted) and Pontnewydd – a very satisfactory achievement.
⦁ GBL Div 2 – very good results in the second half of the season have seen us finish a mid-
table 5th, only 5pts away from 3rd , so again, a very creditable performance
⦁ EMBA – Caldicot finished as Champions having won all 5 of our fixtures. Great
We also enjoyed great success in the EMBA individual competitions, the Finals having
been played at Caldicot on Sun 11-Sep. Caldicot Bowlers achieved 4 Trophy Wins and 5
Runners-Up, Barry Sansom being crowned open singles champion for the second year
running. (see Member Section for full details).
⦁ Newport Over-60’s – results were unfortunately not as strong and we finished next to
bottom in 14th place. However, our policy is to give all members competitive matches
which does impact our competitiveness in this League. So thank you to all who
participated in these matches. The games were I’m sure enjoyed despite the results
⦁ All results of our Club Competition Finals can be seen in our Members Section.
In summary, a very satisfactory year all round and our thanks must go to the Captains, Barry
Sansom; Russ Jackson; Brian Avery for their efforts in organising and motivating their respective
teams through the season……and of course a big thank you to All of you for the bowls played
and the competitive yet friendly spirit shown throughout the season – well done All and thank
you !! We look forward to an even better 2023!!
